LIBO, China
2012
I made my first trip to Libo in April of 2012 on an "exploratory" mission to discover whether or not I could imagine living and working in a remote Chinese town in the poorest province in China. After only a few days, I found that I could very easily see myself here, and in August of the same year, I made the move. The experience thus far has been many things--challenging, fascinating, trying, exciting, and rewarding. Read the "My Travels" section of this site to hear stories of my adventures in navigating life in Libo.
You can also check out this page of Chinglish from my recent travels in inner China. There are some excellent new additions that I think you will appreciate.

BEIJING, China
February - June 2008
I spent the spring semester of 2008 at the Beijing Institute of Education, doing the CET Intensive Language Course in Mandarin Chinese. "I learned a lot" could potentially be the understatement of the year. My Chinese improved radically, and I discovered so much of what China has to offer... while at the same time only scratching the surface of a culture that has thousands of years of history behind it. I made some great friends, ate a lot of weird food, and didn't get to travel nearly enough. Oh, well. Next time...
