My darling wife!
We’ve been on our way to our new garrison since yesterday evening. We just crossed the German border and will presumably move into new standing quarters on the sea. The transport will likey take three days. Along the way, we’ve already run into another group of soldiers from an Ulm garrison (the Hindenburg barracks). Soldiers from other barracks are also on their way to the West. So, how are you all doing. I truly hope that you are all healthy. Now we are in Nancy. The drive so far has gone from NSU over Heidelberg, Mannheim, Homburg, Metz. I figure that by this evening or maybe later tonight we’ll reach Paris. There are an enormous number of German troops in transit. The colossal shift in troop movement must be connected to new measures of some sort. Please excuse the bad handwriting--I’m writing during the drive and there isn’t any peace or quiet. I hope to be able to give you more information on our whereabouts soon. With heartfelt regards, also to our darling children
