Today I want to send a package to you in order to relieve some of the worries that you all have had about me because of my illness. The items are partially things that I bought and partially things that I’ve saved from the food here. Every one of you should get to try some of them, including Uncle Franz. If the package ban hasn’t been relaxed yet, send me some string so that I can wrap them up better.
If I asked you to send me some money here in my last letter so that I could buy something for you if the opportunity arises, I think I forgot to mention that you can’t send me the money in German currency (bills)--you have to take a written payment order from the bank to the post office and send that to me, and then I’ll be paid in Francs here. I could get in trouble with foreign currency here. At the most 36 DM monthly.
So, I hope that the items arrive safely and that you enjoy them. I send you my love and kisses
From your Josef
