The Concept.
I love my new camera. That satisfying snapping sound it makes as I capture an image, the feel of its weight around my neck, the way it zooms and focuses and flashes and does all the things a fine piece of photographic equipment should do. But I admit it--I don't know what I'm doing. As of right now, I'm unsure what aperture means and I know very little about composition. I'm using my fancy camera like a point-and-shooter, and it's doing (in my opinion) magnificent work.
As I learn how to go from auto to manual, I would like to use this space as a way to get feedback from you. Which images do you like? How could I make them better? Tips, tricks, and advice are welcome. Criticism is welcome too, as long as you promise not to make me cry. I hope the following galleries will become a map of my progress from square one (March 1, 2013) to square one million (some date in the far off distant future where I will probably have to start over and learn space photography because we've all moved to Mars).

Gallery 1: The Many Faces of China
I am more drawn to faces than landscapes, so it seems fitting to start out with a gallery of the faces I've encountered thus far in China this year.
Gallery 2: You ate what?! (In)edible China.
People ask me about the food in China far more often than they ask me about anything else I've experienced in this country so far. I am an avid cook and enthusiastic eater (most of the time), so I definitely don't mind answering. This gallery will document some of the things I have and have not consumed, and these photos will be good practice for when I get back into my own kitchen to share recipes and pictures with you that will be, I'm guessing, slightly more appetizing than many of the foods found in this gallery.
